Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program 2024 is a fully funded scholarship program for international students to pursue Graduate (Master) Degree programs in 27 universities in different countries. JJ/WEBGS scholarship provides a full tuition fee, economy class ticket, monthly stipend, etc.

The Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program (JJ/WBGSP) is offered by the World Bank and the Government of Japan aims to support individuals from developing countries to pursue graduate studies at selected universities worldwide. Since 1987, the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program has enabled more than 6,000 mid-career professionals from 160 developing countries and Japan to complete graduate degrees in development-related fields. On an annual basis, the Government of Japan solely funds the JJ/WBGSP.

Scholarship Benefits

  • The JJ/WBGSP Scholarship program provides tuition fees for their courses of study and the cost of basic medical insurance obtained through the university to the selected candidates.
  • Additionally, this scholarship program will cover economy class flight between the home country and the host country at the beginning and the end of the scholarship study program duration and provide a US $500 travel allowance for each trip they take.
  • Likewise, selected candidates will receive a monthly allowance to cover all living expenses (accommodations, food, etc., including books). The amount of the allowance varies depending on the host country.

The JJ/WBGSP scholarship does not cover:

  • Visa Application(s) costs
  • Permit resident fee
  • Expenses to bring and/or support a scholar’s family members
  • Extra-curricular activities courses or training;
  • Language training not provided by the graduate program;
  • Additional travel during the scholarship study program;
  • Expenses related to research, supplementary educational materials, field trips, participation in workshops/seminars, internships; or
  • Educational equipment such as computers.

Eligibility Criteria for JJ/WBGSP

Applicants need the following requirements to be eligible for the Joint Japan World Bank Graduate Scholarship Program.

  • Be a national of a World Bank member country listed in Annex 1 of these Guidelines.
  • Not be a dual citizen of any developed country.
  • Hold a bachelor’s degree (or equivalent university degree) earned at least three years before the date of the Application Deadline.
  • have at least 3 years of recent development-related work experience after earning a bachelor’s degree
  • Be employed in development-related work in a paid full-time position at the time of submitting the scholarship application.
  • Individuals currently studying in a JJ/WBGSP Participating Program are NOT eligible to receive a JJ/WBGSP scholarship.

Required Documents for JJ/WBGSP

  • Bachelor’s Degree (Do not include a transcript, or upload a transcript as a substitute for a diploma)
  • CV using the format provided in Annex 4 and written in English or the languages of the Master’s Degree program m for which the applicant is seeking JJWBGSP funding
  • Letter of Admission for the upcoming
  • academic year to the JJ/WBGSP participating master’s program:
    • which is among those listed on the JJ/WBGSP website;
    • for which the applicant is seeking JJWBGSP funding; and
    • that is located outside of the applicant’s country of citizenship and country of residence
  • Scanned copies of a valid passport
